Services that could meet the needs of your family:
Individual Music Therapy
Do you have a child struggling with speech, social skills, emotion regulation, flexibility, or obsessive compulsive behaviors related to autism? Music therapy can help! By using evidence based techniques like songwriting, movement to music, improvisation, musical games and sing-along songs, we can address the challenges you’re facing. We often see extraordinary growth towards social, emotional and cognitive goals as people with autism receive consistent individual music therapy. Individual music therapy at Empower is $100 for 50 minutes and is most frequently utilized on a weekly or every-other-week basis.
Music therapy for stress relief for caregivers:
Being a parent is a challenge! Moreover, being a parent to a child with unique needs can be even more exhausting and stressful. At Empower we recognize this and offer individual music therapy sessions to parents and caregivers. Music therapy for stress relief can look like music-guided meditations, music-guided breath-work, lyric discussion and mindfulness-based songwriting.
Family Music Therapy for siblings and parents:
At Empower, we believe that there are so many beautiful elements of having a neurodivergent family member(s). However, we acknowledge the real challenges that can accompany an autism diagnosis for parents, siblings, and/or the entire family unit. For this reason, we often lead family sessions to increase family bonding, opportunities for meaning making, and communication within families. Family sessions are $150 for 50 minutes and are most often utilized on an every-other-week or monthly basis.
Group Music Therapy
What better way to practice social skills than in a group setting? Group music therapy is an amazing tool for socialization, community building and common humanity. We offer inclusive music therapy groups on a seasonal basis, with our biggest group offering being summer programming. Groups are typically $50 per session.
We also offer family friendly community events throughout the year that are inclusive to all abilities and disabilities, including autism. Community events range from $5-25 per attendee.
Common goals for music therapy and Autism:
Increased social skills
Emotional awareness and regulation
Self-expression
Opportunities to build confidence
Speech development
Body awareness
Opportunities for meaning making
Interested in supplementing or replacing applied behavioral analysis (ABA)?
While some families find ABA services to be the gold standard for behavioral challenges related to autism spectrum disorder, other families find the ABA techniques of punishment/reward to not be the best fit for them.
Music therapy can be a great addition or alternative to ABA therapy to address challenging behaviors related to autism. Music is often highly motivating and enriching to neurodiverse individuals and this can allow for the therapy space to feel meaningful, safe, and explorative of our choices, rather than strictly behavior-focused.

Empower is community partners with Autism TN!
What does this mean? Empower collaborates very closely with Autism TN to build community events and to advocate for the power of music therapy for individuals with autism.
